Self Assessment

What is the value of this process?
As you begin exploring career options, it will be important to be well-aware of your interests, skills, values and attributes.

This information will help you to evaluate whether or not, with the appropriate training, you would be a good match for a particular career. As you apply for summer jobs, internships, part-time jobs and career opportunities, you can use this information to promote relevant strengths to prospective employers.

The Self-Assessment Process

Brainstorm skills, attributes and values that you possess.

Which of these relate most or might be most valued for the job/career for  which you are applying/preparing?

How else might you use these characteristics to promote yourself to a prospective employer?

Career Assessment Tool
Most college students are not sure from the start what they want to major in or what career they plan to pursue.  At Avila we understand that and want to help our students to begin to define and develop or confirm a realistic career choice and plan.  For this purpose we offer an on-line career assessment tool called, "Do What You Are." While this tool will be integrated into First Year Seminar, it is available for use by all Avila students and graduates.

As Human eSource says, "This program is based on Personality Type - the innate way people naturally see the world and make decisions - a set of basic drives and motivations that remain constant throughout a person's life.  Learning about their Personality Type provides students with accurate and invaluable insights satisfying college and career decisions."

It takes about thirty minutes for most people to complete the assessment.  You can take the assessment at your convenience at home, in your residence hall, or in the computer lab.  A comprehensive report is available over the internet or for discussion during a follow-up appointment with a Career Services staff member.

If you are in the decision-making mode regarding your major or future career, consider taking advantage of this assessment tool by clicking on this link.

Current students will need their Student ID and Avila e-mail address to gain access to the assessment.  Alumni need to call Career Services at 816.501.2901 to obtain access.

We are confident that this tool will provide you with greater insight into your strengths and challenges and help you to identify appropriate career options.  It has the potential to make you a better learner and a person who is focused on a career that is a good match for your personality, skills and interests.
