2011
October: Avila plays homecoming football game at Avila for the first time.
September: Alyssa D'Egidio, a junior forward from Canton, Ohio, scored two goals each in three consecutive games for the undefeated Avila women's soccer team and was named the NAIA offensive player of the week.
August: Emily Hamblin, who hails from Melbourne, Fla., recently was named to the 2011 Collegiate All-American Team by Inside Cheerleading magazine. The new Pavilion is complete with a practice court for the teams and intramural sports. The new Turf Athletic Field is complete to include a softball, baseball and football field.
July: Addie Buckler, a senior on the Avila University women's basketball team, recently was selected as the 2011 Heart of America Athletic Conference Emil S. Liston Award recipient. Robin Nigro, director of the Robin Nigro Golf Academy in south Kansas City, has been appointed head men's and women's golf coach. Daryl Cronk, who most recently served as an assistant coach at Rockhurst University, has been named head baseball coach at Avila University.
May: Gary Gallup, a veteran of 34 years in intercollegiate athletic administration, including NCAA Division I and Division II institutions, has been appointed as the new Director of Athletics. Emily Ryan, who just finished her junior season on the Avila University women's golf team, was recently listed as a 2011 Daktronics-NAIA Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete.
April: Avila appoints Justin Berna head football coach who will replace Kevin Porter, who accepts position in Georgia. Ryan Howard, who took over the Avila University baseball program directly after graduating from the university in 2001, reached a milestone by winning the 300 th game of his career in a 9-4 victory in the first game of a double-header April 16 at arch-rival William Jewell. Avila University baseball player Chris Thomas, a junior from Liberty, Mo., was named the Heart of America Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year.
March: Avila University's women's basketball team, behind a stellar performance from junior point guard Torie Murillo, upset second-seeded Lindenwood, 81-72, Friday night in St. Charles, Mo. and advanced to the championship game of the Heart of America Athletic Conference post-season tournament. Quinton Branch, a 6-foot-1 senior guard from Fort Worth, Texas, was named to the all-Heart of America Athletic Conference men's basketball first team as voted on by the conference's coaches. Avila University joined rival Evangel as having placed two players on the five-player all-Heart of America Athletic Conference women's basketball first team, Alyson Young and Torie Murillo. Avila women's basketball take HAAC tourney championship, qualify for nationals.

 

2010
November: Avila University junior Adam McGovern made history last weekend by becoming the school's first runner to ever qualify for the NAIA National Cross Country Championships by finishing in third place at the Heart of America Athletic Conference meet. Hall of Fame basketball coach Davey Whitney took time out of his busy schedule Nov. 22 to visit Avila University and speak with the Eagles men's and women's basketball teams.
October: Geoff Gahn, a junior from Las Vegas, was honored as the Heart of America Athletic Conference's men's golfer of the week for his victory over 36 tough holes at the Fred Arbanas Golf Course in Kansas City.
May: Avila Eagles Golf Team Take Second in HAAC. Golfers Ashley Ratliff, Anna Frasier, and Madeline Willmore Named All-Conference. Golf Coach, Lisa Holton, Named Conference Coach of the Year. Eagles Earn 10 Baseball All HAAC Awards. Head Baseball Coach Ryan Howard Named Coach of the Year. Avila Heads to NAIA National Baseball Tournament ; Eagles Take Two from Lindenwood to Win the HAAC Conference Tournament.
March: Avila University Women's Basketball Team Earns 4 All Conference Honors. Men's Basketball Earns 2 All Conference Awards. Avila named Rodney Perry as its new head men's basketball coach.
January: Avila Names Krista Newman as New Volleyball Coach. Avila Dance Team Finishes 3rd in the Nation in Hip Hop & 8th in the Nation in Jazz. Avila University Cheerleaders Finish 4th in the Nation at the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) Nationals.

 

2009
December: Coach David Denny became the Cross Country Head Coach. Avila University's athletic director Anthony Hall announced today the hiring of Kevin Porter as the new head football coach.
November:
Rachelle Luster, senior soccer forward from Lenexa, Kansas, was named 1 st Team All HAAC. Lisa York, freshman soccer defender from Raymore, Missouri, was named 3 rd Team All HAAC. Avila University's Laura Ten Eyck was named 2 nd Team All Heart of America Athletic Conference volleyball player. Bruce Young Announces Resignation as Avila University Football Coach and Jan Madlock Announces Resignation as Avila University Volleyball Coach. Avila Football Earns 8 All HAAC Honors.
October:
Danielle Price, freshman soccer forward from DeSoto, Kansas, was named Offensive Player of the Week in the Heart of America Conference. Ray Dlugolecki, senior goalie from Lee's Summit, Missouri, was named Defensive Player of the Week in the Heart of America Conference. It was announced that Men and Women's Cross Country would be added to the athletic program starting Fall 2010 .
September:
Tyler Cardwell, sophomore defensive back from Blue Springs, Missouri, won Defensive Player of the week, and Austin Cole, junior quarterback from Grass Lake, Michigan, won Offensive Player of the Week for the Heart of America Conference.
August:
Avila University beats Meet Doane College in 3rd Annual "First Down Classic".
May & June:
Anthony Hall Named Avila University Athletic Director. Avila Names Kylie Williamson Head Softball Coach
April:
The Kansas City Wizards and Avila University Men's and Women's soccer programs are proud to announce a partnership for the 2009-2010 school year. This partnership will provide a game and practice facility that is the best in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. AU's Krista Nelson Headed to Women's Golf National Championship; Eagles Finish 2nd and Take Home 2 HAAC All-Conference Awards; Coach Krause Earns Coach of the Year Honor.
March: Adam Short, junior basketball forward from Schererville, Indiana, earned 2nd Team All HAAC. Justin Lott, senior basketball guard from Lemoore, California, finished out the Eagle honors with a 3rd Team All HAAC award. Ashley Townsend, senior basketball forward from Orrick, Missouri, was named HAAC Player of the Year and earned 1st Team All HAAC. Sarah Parker, senior guard from Leawood, Kansas, earned 3rd Team All HAAC. Alyson Young, sophomore post from Rogersville, Missouri, earned Honorable Mention All HAAC. Emily Hoskins, senior point guard from Shawnee, Kansas, earned her 500 career assist against Evangel University. Jaime Kenney, Junior guard from Clinton, Missouri scored her 1000 career point on February 12th , versus Baker University. Zach Snyder throws a "No Hitter" 2nd no hitter in school history.

 

2008
Chris Clements was hired as the New Head Men's & Women's Soccer Coach. In February, Juniors Sarah Parker and Ashley Townsend both scored their 1,000th points in a victorious evening game against Stephen's College. In March, Ashley Townsend earns Third-Team All American and Academic All-American basketball honors for her standout season at Avila University . Avila University sweeps HAAC academic awards for NAIA National Nomination: Douglas E. Wendel, majored in secondary education-mathematics and was part of the Avila football team, was selected as the A. O. Duer award nominee; Ashley L. Townsend, majoring in accounting and a member of the women's basketball team, was selected as the Emil S. Liston award nominee. Mike Sharpe resigns at Athletic Director. During a September halftime Men's Soccer game, Avila University inducted Scott Royal-Ferris into our Athletics Hall of Fame. Ryan Howard named ABCA/Diamond Sports Company NAIA Region V Coach of the Year. In November, eight Eagle football players were placed on the Heart of America All-Conference football teams. December 16, Senior, Ashley Townsend (Orrick, MO) was named HAAC Player of the Week for her 2 outstanding games against conference foes, Central Methodist College and Graceland University.
