Matt begins his first season as the Head Golf Coach at Avila University after just moving to Kansas City in May of 2012.  He is also a Teaching Professional and a Top 50 US Kids Golf Instructor.  He came to Avila from Eagle’s Landing Country Club where he built a top junior golf program and also traveled the southeast as a custom club fitter for TaylorMade Golf.  He has been teaching golf for the past 5 years and has been mentored by a Top 50 Instructor in America and Golf Digest Writer, Charlie King.  Matt is a teaching professional and an assistant golf professional at Minor Park Golf Course, as well as the Head Golf Coach.

Matt played his collegiate golf at Belhaven College in Jackson, MS.  He was there for two years and played as the number one & the number two player during his time at Belhaven.  Clinger won his first ever college tournament at the Mississippi College Invitational as low medalist.  Matt also played college baseball and was close to being drafted before an injury caused him to turn to college golf.

Matt also brings playing professionally to the table in his resume.  He played professionally for two years on two different tours in the state of Georgia.  After playing professionally, he learned that he loved the game so much that he wanted to help create more players by teaching others how to play.  Through that he has found his life’s passion to be coaching and helping others reach their maximum potential.
