AVILA TO HOST OFFENSIVE LINE CAMP

Avila Football will host a session of the Tony Johnson Assembly Line Five Offensive Line Camp. The date of the one day camp is June 28 th . CHIEFS INVITE THREE AVILA EAGLES

The Kansas City Chiefs invited three Avila University Eagles to participate in the annual area tryout.

Johnny Serfozo, Nick Saviano and Landon Ellis participated in the workout on April 11th. The camp was a one day tryout with other four year college prospects from the Midwest . Nick, Landon and Johnny are waiting for results and further information.

Avila University sweeps HAAC academic awards for

NAIA National Nomination


Kansas City , Mo. - Avila University recently announced the 2008 A.O. Duer and Emil S. Liston Award nominees. Each college and university in the Heart of America Athletic Conference selects one candidate for each award and submits it to the NAIA national office for consideration for the national award.

Douglas E. Wendel, an Avila junior majoring in secondary education-mathematics and member of the Avila football team, was selected as the A. O. Duer award nominee.

Ashley L. Townsend, an Avila junior majoring in accounting and a member of the women's basketball team, was selected as the Emil S. Liston award nominee.

The A.O. Duer Award is named in honor the NAIA's former executive secretary for his service to the NAIA. This award emphasizes the NAIA policy of scholarship in athletic programs and is presented annually to a junior men's and women's student athlete of any sport who has a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.75 on a 4.0 scale and is a member of a NAIA intercollegiate athletic team.

The Emil S. Liston Award is named in honor of Emil Liston who was the prime mover behind the NAIA's basketball tournament. This award is presented annually to a junior men's and women's basketball player who has shown athletic and scholastic achievement. Nominees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

SCHOLAR STUDENT-ATHLETE AWARDS

Avila University belongs to Region V of the NAIA. The region consists of 21 schools in the states of Kansas , Missouri , Iowa , Arkansas and Illinois . To qualify for Region V scholar athlete status, a student-athlete must be a junior with four semesters of total attendance completed, have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better, have a minimum of 60 semester hours completed, and transfer student-athletes must have attended the institution for one semester prior to being nominated.

FOOTBALL EAGLES IN ALL-STAR GAME

Landon Ellis, Nick Saviano, Johnny Serfozo, Brian Serna and Ryan Vaughn participated in the VSN Senior Classic.

The Victory Sports Network Senior Classic took place on April 21 st in Platte City 's “Pirates Stadium” with kick-off set for 1:00pm.
