Raquel Thomas

Assistant Coach






 

 

Raquel Thomas begins her 11th year as the assistant dance coach at Avila University. Raquel brings a wealth of high school, intercollegiate and professional dancer experience to the program.

Thomas has been on the dance staff since it's inception in 2000.  She has choreographed numerous routines for the Avila University Glitters including the 2005 National Championship Hip-Hop Routine. As well as choreographing for Avila, she lends her talents to area high schools and colleges that compete at regional, state and national levels.

A native of the Kansas City area, Thomas was part of both the cheer and dance squads at Shawnee Mission West High School for three years.  Following her high school career, she continued her dance experience as a two year member of the UNITY/S.U.T.H. Hip Hop Dance Troupe at the University of Kansas.  Raquel has also spent five years as a cheerleader for the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs.  She has served as a captain throughout most of her career with the Chiefs and was the team's representative for the 2001 Pro Bowl in Hawaii.

Thomas completed two USO tours in Cuba and Italy entertaining our men and women over seas.

In addition to coaching, Lathan teaches grade School in Overland Park, Kansas. A graduate of Avila University, Lathan holds a bachelor's degree in education and completed her masters degree in education in December 2007.
Raquel and her husband Billy reside in Olathe, KS and have a one year old son named Zion.
