On Saturday May 1, 2010 the Avila University Cheerleaders went down to the Power & Light District to help cheer on those walking for the March of Dimes event “March for Babies” which is a non-profit organization for pregnancy and baby health, the websites describes it as, “We're dedicated to improving the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.” At this event the cheerleaders gathered together at the start of the walk to cheer on those who intended to march for babies, providing inspiration and motivation to those involved.  Throughout the walk to girls took pictures with the kids, shook hands and shared stories with families, performed stunts, played with puppies, and performed cheers to help with motivation.  Everyone was very appreciative and glad to have the cheerleaders at the walk to support such a wonderful cause. The children at the event were truly happy to have the cheerleaders there and welcomed them with love and smiles.

Avila University Cheerleaders are 4th in the Nation!!!

Saturday, January 16th, the Avila University Cheerleaders competed at UCA Nationals in Orlando, Florida. It was a full day of competition.  Avila placed 4th after completing a perfect routine in Finals. Not only is 4th place the highest Avila has ever placed at Nationals, but they were able to beat the defending National Champions of Southern Connecticut State University. Avila's cheerleaders came back after facing quite a few challenges this year. They went into the competition seeded in 8th place, but the ladies refused to accept that! All other teams competed with 20 participants on the competition mat, but with unforeseen injuries affecting their numbers, Avila only competed with 18. Despite the challenges, the cheerleaders worked very hard to perfect a routine that lead them to a 4th place title. With 5 strong seniors leading the way with positive attitudes, sweat, and tears, the team pulled together under the most frustrating of circumstances to earn a very rewarding national placement.

The cheerleaders will now begin preparing for the upcoming HAAC Competition to be held on February 13th at Central Methodist University. The team will compete alongside the Avila Glitter Girls to try and earn back the conference championship title. The cheerleaders are very excited to be able to perform their record earning routine at the competition, and are working together to make it the best ever.
