Women' s Soccer Wins 3-2 In Double Overtime

Fulton, MO - The Avila Eagles battled the William Woods Owls last night and came out victorious with a 3-2 win. The game started well for the Eagles with an unassisted 30 yard bomb from Rachelle Luster in the 12 th minute. Avila outshot William Woods 7 to 4 in the first half. Goalkeeper Renee Rudder came up with a big save to keep the score at zero going into halftime.

The Owls came out strong in the second half and scored with a shot in the upper left corner in the 47 th minute, tying up the game. In the 60 th minute, Luster plays a through ball and Hillary Kerschbaum came up big with a low, hard shot to the right of the keeper, putting the Eagles up 2-1. With 5 minutes left in the game, William Woods gets a penalty kick and ties the game once again. The girls fought hard to get a goal before regulation and had a few opportunities but just couldn't find the back of the net.

The two teams battled it out in the first overtime period. The game winning goal came with 6 minutes left in the second overtime period with a great cross from Luster and a deflection into the goal from a William Woods defender.

Coach Clements was pleased with the way they played but knows there is still much room for improvement stating, "They played with heart and found a way to come out on top. We now have to focus on getting better for our next game".

The Eagles are looking for their next win on Friday against Missouri Baptist in Lebanon, IL.. The match is set to start at 5pm.
