s Soccer Wins 3-2 In Double Overtime
Fulton, MO - The Avila Eagles
battled the William Woods Owls last night and came out victorious
with a 3-2 win. The game started well for the Eagles with an unassisted
30 yard bomb from Rachelle Luster in the 12 th minute. Avila outshot
William Woods 7 to 4 in the first half. Goalkeeper Renee Rudder
came up with a big save to keep the score at zero going into halftime.
The Owls came out strong
in the second half and scored with a shot in the upper left corner
in the 47 th minute, tying up the game. In the 60 th minute, Luster
plays a through ball and Hillary Kerschbaum came up big with a low,
hard shot to the right of the keeper, putting the Eagles up 2-1.
With 5 minutes left in the game, William Woods gets a penalty kick
and ties the game once again. The girls fought hard to get a goal
before regulation and had a few opportunities but just couldn't
find the back of the net.
The two teams battled it
out in the first overtime period. The game winning goal came with
6 minutes left in the second overtime period with a great cross
from Luster and a deflection into the goal from a William Woods
defender.
Coach Clements was pleased
with the way they played but knows there is still much room for
improvement stating, "They played with heart and found a way to
come out on top. We now have to focus on getting better for our
next game".
The Eagles are looking for
their next win on Friday against Missouri Baptist in Lebanon, IL..
The match is set to start at 5pm.
