Avila Sluggish in 2-1 Loss to William Penn

Oskaloosa, IA - On a cold and very windy day, the Avila Men's soccer team struggled to find itself and dropped its final non-conference match of the season to the Statesmen. Avila opened the scoring in the 44th minute when Tim Wolf found the back of the net from inside the six yard box. The momentum gained from the goal was short lived when Jacob Fairchild scored for the Statesmen in the 50th minute. William Penn scored what would be the game winning goal off a corner kick in the 72nd minute.

Avila (3-8-1, 0-2-1) was outshot 21-12 for the game.

Coach Clements was not pleased with the effort and focus of the team, "We came out with no energy and let the conditions control our identity. It is very frustrating when we work so hard in practice and prepare well and then do not show up for the game. It was a good learning experience for the team and we will get back to work tomorrow and regroup."

Ray Dlugolecki played all 90 minutes in net recording 12 saves.

Avila plays the second of three road games in a row when they travel to Canton, MO Saturday (Oct. 10th) for a conference matchup against Culver Stockton. The match is set for a 3PM kick.
