First Win of the Season in Impressive Fashion 4-1 over Tabor College
Kansas City, MO - The Avila
University Men's Soccer Team won its first game of the season with
a 4-1 victory Saturday over Tabor College. In a game that saw Tabor
score an early first goal just 17 minutes into the match, the Eagles
rebounded strong with four unanswered goals. The Eagles (1-4) first
goal came in the 41st minute on a 30 yard blast from Roberto Camacho.
Freshman Louis Haynes quickly added to the lead 26 seconds later
when he followed up a shot from Tom Wolf that was mishandled by
the Goalkeeper.
Camacho added to the lead
with his second goal of the match in the 58th minute from 20 yards
out after receiving a great pass through the middle from Pat Kelly.
Kelly then put the game out of reach in 77th minute when he scored
off of a cross from Tim Wolf.
Coach Clements was extremely
pleased with the effort and excited for the team as they earned
their first win of the season. "The kids played with great
effort and heart today and it finally paid off for them. I am very
proud of how we played and battled through the whole game, the boys
deserved to win this one. All of the hard work we have put in since
the start of the pre-season showed today and the boys were rewarded.
Now we need to work harder to get better and get ready for a good
St. Mary's team on Tuesday."
Ray Dlugolecki played a great
game in the goal, recording 3 saves.
The Eagles look to continue
their winning ways on Tuesday night against St Mary's of Kansas.
The match will be played at Swope Park in Kansas City with a start
time of 8 P.M.
