Eagles Drop
4-0 Decision to Ottawa
Kansas City, MO - Ottawa
University scored two goals in each half enroute to a 4-0 win on
Wednesday night. Colin Wylie opened the scoring in the 18th minute
on a direct free kick from 35 yards out. Jorge Cota added to lead
in the 39 minute. Ottawa then scored in the 65th and 88th minutes
to conclude the scoring.
Although Avila (0-4) was
outshot 20-16 for the match, the game saw plenty of opportunites
for the Eagles to score but unfortunately they could not find the
back of the net. Avila hit the bar four times and saw numerous other
shots miss just wide or over the top. The majority of the chances
came in the second half which both frustrated and pleased Coach
Clements, "The effort put forth in the second half is what
I am looking for the boys to play with for a whole match. We started
slow and to Ottawa's credit, they put away their opportunities.
I am excited about our play in the second half and we will look
to build off of that at practice this week."
Ray Dlugolecki started in
the net for the first time this season and played well recording
six saves.
The Eagles were paced by
Roberto Camacho's four shots, while four other players had two shots
a piece.
Avila returns to the pitch
on Saturday, September 12th when they look for their first win of
the season against Tabor College of Kansas. The match is slated
to start at 3 P.M. on the campus of Avila.
