Eagles Drop
Final Road Match of Year 4-2
Olathe, KS – The Avila Eagles
Men's Soccer team fell to Mid-America Nazarene 4-2 on Tuesday (Oct.
27) afternoon in Olathe. Mid-America opened the scoring in the 23
rd minute with a goal from Trent Remmich. Ben Dlugolecki evened
the match up in the 39 th minute and the game would remain tied
at the halftime whistle. Mid-America would then score three consecutive
goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half to put the match
away. Brian Garrison scored the final score of the match in the
74 th minute. The goalkeepers saw plenty of action as both teams
combined for 37 shots, with the Eagles having 17 of them.
Avila was led in shots by
Roberto Camacho and Ben Dlugolecki with five a piece, while Tom
Wolf recorded four.
Coach Clements felt the Eagles
played well for 75 minutes but the start of the second half was
frustrating, “We played well enough to win the match for the first
45 minutes and came out flat to start the second and MNU made us
pay. Give credit to them for being ready to play out of halftime
as our guys let down mentally for the 15 minutes. I was proud of
us for battling until the end and if we have a couple breaks go
our way, the game would have had a different outcome.”
Ray Dlugolecki played all
90 minutes in the net, recording eight saves.
The Eagles (4-11-1, 1-5-1)
look to end the season strong as they host two games with the first
being against Benedictine on Saturday (Oct. 31) at Avila Field.
The game will also be Senior Day as we recognize the seniors for
all of their hard work and dedication to Avila Soccer. Match is
set to start at 2PM.
