Lindenwood
Defeats Eagles 2-0
Kansas City, MO - The Avila
University mens soccer team dropped a home matchup tonight 2-0 to
the Lindenwood University Lions. The game was evenly matched and
for the second straight game, the Eagles had their chances to score
but came away scoreless. Roberto Camacho and Paul Hilldbrand led
the Eagles with four and two shots respectively. The game was a
scoreless tie when Lindenwood Midfielder Hannes Backstrom scored
the go ahead goal with just over 12 minutes remaining. The Eagles
had a chance to tie the game with 7 minutes remaining but came up
empty on a penalty kick. Lindenwood scored the final goal with 20
seconds remaining.
Lindenwood outshot the Eagles
26-9 for the game.
The game left Coach Clements
and his kids very frustrated, "We put the effort in tonight
to come away with a victory but in the end we didn't make the plays
to do so. The boys are playing hard and with lots of effort but
we just need to put our chances away. In this conference, chances
do not come easy and when we get them, we must take advantage of
them. Tonight was a good learning experience and we will continue
to keep working hard to fix our mistakes."
Once again, Ray Dlugolecki
battled tough in the net recording 5 saves.
The Eagles (3-7-1, 0-2-1)
travel to Oskaloosa, IA on Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 6th) for a non-conference
tilt against William Penn University. The game is Avila's last non-conference
game of the season and is set to kick off at 3PM on the campus of
William Penn.
