Avila Defeats
Culver Stockton 1-0
Canton, MO - In a workmanlike
effort, the Avila men's soccer team picked up its first conference
win of the season on Saturday (Oct. 10th) in Canton. Avila controlled
the majority of the match and had many chances to put the game out
of reach. Tom Wolf scored the lone goal of the match when he knocked
in a goal off of a corner kick from Roberto Camacho. The Eagles
improved to 4-8-1 and 1-2-1 in conference play while Culver fell
to 1-8.
Avila outshot the Wildcats
23-10 overall and 12-3 on goal. Tom Wolf led the Eagles with six
shots while Louis Haynes had five and Roberto Camacho with four.
Coach Clements was very pleased
with the effort and focus today, "I thought we came out strong
and did what we needed to do to win today. Although the goals did
not come as we had hoped, we gave ourselves plenty of chances. We
followed the game plan and came away with conference victory on
the road which is never an easy task. Ray and our backs played another
great game recording the shutout. I am proud of our kids and look
forward to build upon on this as we start the final half the conference
play."
The Eagles continue conference
play on the road Saturday (Oct. 17) whey they travel to Graceland
University. The match is set to start at 7PM in Lamoni, IA on the
campus of Graceland.
