AVILA FOOTBALL BY THE NUMBERS

  • The Eagles have won 17 games in their short six years of varsity football in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.
  • During the 2007 season Andrew Korth, freshman kicker, made over 70% of his field goals and had a season best of 49 yards.
  • The seven seniors from 2006 all received their degrees in Spring 2007.
  • Nick Saviano, senior defensive back, broke the Avila football record for tackles in a season with 113 tackles. That mark was also good enough to finish 2 nd in the HAAC.
  • Senior quarterback, Billy Firn, broke all of his own records set in 2006 for passing totals. Billy had 239 completions out of 402 attempts for 2326 yards and 21 TDs. Billy completed his career with 384 completions out of 679 attempts for 3758 yards and 30 TDs.
  • During the Spring 2007 semester the Eagles boasted 25 players with over a 3.0 GPA. 3 players, Brandon Holiwell, Brian Kelly and Doug Wendel earned a perfect 4.0 GPA for the semester. The team GPA for the Spring 2007 semester was 3.02 and is the highest ever in Avila football history.
  • Avila had 4 players receive 2007 HAAC All-Conference honors. Nick Saviano, defensive back and Doug Wendel, wide receiver received 1 st team honors. Billy Firn, quarterback and Nick Ward-Bopp, linebacker both received honorable mention.
  • Laurence Sulbelka, senior running back, completed his career at Avila in the top 5 for career rushing attempts (202), yards (937) and rushing TDs (7).
  • Doug Wendel, junior wide receiver, broke the Avila career record for receptions in a season with 76 catches and the career mark with 182 catches.
  • The 2007 season saw Avila have more than one receiver with 5 or more TD catches. Anthony Kelly, junior (7), Johnny Serfozo, senior (6), and Doug Wendel, junior (5).
  • Doug Wendel, junior wide receiver, finished 2 nd in the HAAC for receptions with 76, while Anthony Kelly, junior wide receiver, finished 4 th with 66 catches. Wendel also finished 2 nd in receiving yards (852) for the season while Kelly finished 2 nd in the HAAC for TD receptions (7).
  • Nick Ward-Bopp, junior linebacker broke the Avila record for tackles for a loss with 15.
