Avila Football by the Numbers

•  Coach Marty Steward, Defensive Coordinator, coached at Grambling University on legendary Coach Eddie Robinson's last staff

•  In the past 3 years of Coach Young's tenure "all" 31 seniors have already received their degrees or are on track to graduating by December 09.

•  The summer of 2009 will bring a remodeled weight room and improvements to the football locker room.

•  Avila Football has full padded spring football, with a spring game slated for Saturday April 18 th .

•  All freshmen attend Study Hall for an hour and a half two to three times per week. This supervised classroom work has pushed the freshman GPA to new levels.

•  Each spring, the entire football team and staff hosts the "Spring Community Clean Up Day", over 25 homes in the Avila residential area receive a free home and yard clean up by the squad.

•  The Eagles have won 20 games in their short years of varsity football in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.

•  Avila's defense was #1 in the league for the 4 th down conversion in 2008.

•  During the fall 2008 semester the Eagles boasted 25 players with over a 3.0 GPA.

•  The Eagles set a new record for all conference selections in 2008. Eight Avila Football players were named to All-Conference honors. Six of the selected will return for the 2009 season.
