| | With
homecoming next week, Campus Ministry set to make their entry
into the Avila banner contest. With the winner receiving $125
toward their club, we got together all of the ladies with
creative talent to see what they could pull off. They spent
an entire afternoon planning the banner out and they finally
set to making it. The finished product looks great and I'm
sure Campus Ministry will win.
Thursday, coach cut
practice short so that both soccer teams could go watch the
KC Wizards take on the LA Galaxy. When we had originally bought
tickets, David Beckham was suppose to play, but due to his
injuries he didn‘t get to play. The Wizards should have won
the game with two early opportunities that went just wide
of the goal. However, with two red cards in the second half,
they had to play two men down, giving the Galaxy the opportunity
they needed to score the only goal of the match. The game
was still enjoyable, even if the Wizards didn't win, as both
teams had a good time hanging out together in a relaxed atmosphere.
Usually we just get to hang out on soccer related bus trips
to and back from games.
Unfortunately, this
week wasn't all fun and games as tragedy hit the men's soccer
team. Turk went to surgery to have his knee fixed, a procedure
that was going to allow him to get back onto the playing field
in a few weeks. However, the surgeons found that his knee
was in worse condition than they had thought, and Turk now
has to spend two months on crutches. This was a definite blow
to the soccer team as everyone looked up to Turk for inspiration
and morale. He never quit and never complained. As this is
my last year, it is painful for me not to be able to finish
out my soccer career with him.
We played our first
conference game on Saturday, coming up short with a score
0-3. The game was extremely physical with tempers flying.
In the second half, tempers overwhelmed a few individuals
causing a fight to erupt. Cards came out like crazy, mostly
against the other team. It was a wild time trying to cool
everything back down so we could finish the game. Overall,
we had our opportunities; we just didn't finish them. The
only upside to the day was that the ladies won their game
in an outstanding performance of skill and perseverance.
Well, this coming
week should be extremely eventful with homecoming this weekend.
So until next week…
