BINGO, Mock Trial, Fake Flowers, and Football
  November 11, 2007

Wow, where did this week go? From cooking out to playing bingo with the elderly, I kept myself busy this week. Once a month, Campus Ministry plays bingo with the retirement community down the street. I have been going since my sophomore year and you would think that I would be a pro. NOPE! I have won once in three years and I didn't do anything to help that streak Tuesday night. I think it must be the boards because I literally am one number away every time from a bingo, but the number is never called. The one time I did win, three other people won too. Just my luck I guess.

With the weather changing, my brother and I decided to get a few more cooks out in before it got too cold. There is just something about hanging out with my brother and my other friends that is relaxing and fun, even if we don't do anything. Doing nothing is definitely something I enjoyed on Sunday as Bopp, Chase, and I all watched the Chiefs lose to Denver. Turk and Max joined in the fun when the Colts came on. With Bopp being a huge Colt's fan, it's fun to poke fun of the Colts and watch him devotedly defend his favorite team.

Mock Trial is heating up as we prepare to host our own tournament on December 1. Everyone is making sure they have everything memorized and are putting the finishing touches on what should be a stellar performance for Avila . This year I am playing the role of a sentencing expert. In the case, a fictional character by the name of Bobby stabs a social worker with a HIV infected needle. My job is to explain to the judges and jury why Bobby should go to jail for the longest possible time. The only downside to my character is that he has a history of being really harsh, and thus the defense attorney will probably hammer me on my lack of compassion due to the “circumstances” surrounding the stabbing. It is a lot of fun!!!

Since I did have more time then usual, I decided to make Katie a good luck gift since she had a chemistry test on Monday (which is a really hard class). Since I am not a very crafty type person, it took me a while to come up with something that I liked. In the end I crafted together a small little flower box out of popsicle sticks, painted them green, and then put in some lovely fake good luck flowers. I had really wanted to find pink heather (since that is supposed to mean good luck) along with white carnations and bells of Ireland. However, to my disappointment, neither Michaels nor Hobby Lobby carried fake pink heather so I just used some small pink flowers. In the end I think it turned out well and seeing the way Katie smiled was definitely worth it.

Well this next week is going to be crunch time as my projects start coming due and finals start looming on the horizon. Next week is Thanksgiving break so there won't be another journal from me for a while. Have a good holiday!
