This week was pretty
boring as everyone was busy studying for midterms next week
or working. One of the highlights though was the cultural
celebration that Avila has every year. The cultural celebration
is basically students/faculty/staff making and bring in food
from their home countries. There are always a ton of different
countries represented and lots of food to try. Personally
I am very timid at trying something that looks anything but
appetizing, but I always at least take a little of everything
so that it looks like I am trying everything. The trouble
is that it might look bad and in fact be really good or look
bad and indeed be bad. So I am always taking the smallest
of bites just in case it is bad.
This year practically
everything was really good, which surprised me since most
of it looked overcooked and dry. The best was probably the
soup that I tried from two students from Japan. I am not a
big fan of foreign soups, but this one really surprised me
as it was extremely spicy.
At the end of the line
were some Saudi Arabia students with their traditional food.
In my geography class, some Saudi Arabian student had given
a presentation over their country and given us some food which
I didn't care for so I really debated whether to try the food
from these Saudi Arabia students. I ended up trying one of
their deserts which was probably the best desert I have had
in a long time. It was like a fried rice crispy treat with
caramel. It sounds strange but it was really good.
This next week I hope
the weather stays nice as it is suppose to stay up in the
60s which means I will get to go fishing. Spring Break starts
this week and that means I am going to be catching some serious
sun and fish, if work permits me (bummer). Since I'll be taking
some time off for break, I will be back in couple of week
with some of the biggest fish stories ever. So until then…
