  Goodbye Mock Trial
  February 18, 2008

Finally I can relax. Last week was just crazy with Mock Trial every evening. The hardest part of last week was trying to become familiar enough with my part so that I wouldn't let the team down. While I knew that everyone was glad that I stepped up, I knew they would be disappointed if I didn't perform well, even with the time restraints.

Fortunately, the tournament went well considering all of the changes. The first team we went against, we didn't do well against, but went uphill from there. The next team tried to mess us up by putting one of our witnesses on the stand so we brought forth another witness that ended up being the best witness that round. I love it when a team tries to play mind games only to have their plan backfire.

As we went into the third round, everyone was doing well, but unfortunately the judges didn't agree with us as we only managed to get half the votes in both the third and fourth round. While this was disappointing since we all thought we had won both rounds, everyone was glad that we were finally done, especially since there were four seniors on the team.

Having participated in Mock Trial for three years now, I can definitely say that it is one club that I am glad that I got involved in here at Avila. Mock Trial has allowed me to relax, have fun, and be part of a team outside of athletics. Also with the makeup of the team always changing, it is always interesting to see how everyone potions themselves within the case each year. One of the best things about Mock Trial is that it allows a person to take on a role that is totally opposite of their true nature. For example, one time I got to play the part of a wild, sex starved, druggie which was a total challenge for me. Hence, you just never know that part you will be playing as the case takes shape, which is half the fun. I think I'm really gonna miss Mock Trial.

This week I will be able to get back to my normal routine and relax a bit. So until next week…
