I
am done!!! This fall I will be heading to Texas Tech to pursue
my law degree which is exciting. While I am really excited
about finally being done with my undergraduate degree, I am
also saddened that I will be leaving behind a lot of friends
and things of which I have grown to love.
One
more week before I am done with classes which is really exciting.
The feeling is kind of surreal since it seems like just yesterday
I was talking to my dad about the possibility of going to
Avila to play soccer. However, even as everything is coming
to a close, there were still plenty of things to keep me on
my toes this week. More...
Cookouts, Habitat for Humanity, and Field
Day
April 21, 2008
Where
did this week go? A black hole must have opened up and devoured
all my time because this last week was way to busy for my
liking. At least I managed to get most of the work done that
I needed in preparation for choosing a law school to attend
this fall. So far Texas Tech is looking like the best choice
as they have offered me a nice scholarship and in-state tuition.
However, I won't know for sure until the beginning of May
when my dad and I are going to start house shopping. More...
Dances and decisions
April 14, 2008
Well I am still alive which is good, but I am
definitely a little sleep deprived. This next week is not looking
like it will lend me any extra hours. Actually it wasn't all
that bad as the papers themselves turned out to be a little
easier to write then I had anticipated. Also with some well
planned activities such as the Avila spring dance and Student
Scholar Day, the time was broken up well. More...
BINGO and Sumo wrestling
April 7, 2008
This
past week was crazy, but in a good way. At Bingo night, I
called the numbers for the first time which was interesting
to say the least. The room was packed so I had to call the
numbers really loudly so that the people in the back could
hear me. This made the table in front of me rather upset since
I was calling the number too loudly. In addition, there were
tables that wanted me to call the numbers slower so that they
could look over their boards better while two tables had speed
players and wanted me to call the numbers even faster. It
was extremely fun watching the tables fight it out as I tried
to play the middle grounds and appease everyone which only
seemed to make everyone upset. In the end, they all had fun
which is all that really matters. More...
Harmony Month Cultural Celebration
March 10, 2008
This
week was pretty boring as everyone was busy studying for midterms
next week or working. One of the highlights though was the
cultural celebration that Avila has every year. The cultural
celebration is basically students/faculty/staff making and
bring in food from their home countries. There are always
a ton of different countries represented and lots of food
to try. Personally I am very timid at trying something that
looks anything but appetizing, but I always at least take
a little of everything so that it looks like I am trying everything.
The trouble is that it might look bad and in fact be really
good or look bad and indeed be bad. So I am always taking
the smallest of bites just in case it is
Go figure,
I get all my fishing stuff out and go once and then the next
week it gets all cold again. The fish were biting too! I went
Saturday for a couple of hours and caught a few channel cats
and several small mouth bass. I figured I wasn't going to
catch too much since it is still early, but they must have
been starved all winter long. Hopefully it will get warm again
soon. I can't wait to hook up with my dad and walk a couple
of the creeks back home which is always a blast. More...
Call of Duty and crazy girls
February 25, 2008
This
week the guys heard the Call of Duty as everyone took their
turn at the game. We had heard about the game for a while,
but since it doesn't allow for coop on the same screen, we
had been staying with Halo 3, which does allow for same screen
coop. However, as soon as Chase tried it out, everyone become
hooked, mostly just by watching the other guys play it. So
now I have another good game to waste my time with, yeah!!!

Good-bye Mock Trial
February 18, 2008
Finally
I can relax. Last week was just crazy with Mock Trial every
evening. The hardest part of last week was trying to become
familiar enough with my part so that I wouldn't let the team
down. While I knew that everyone was glad that I stepped up,
I knew they would be disappointed if I didn't perform well,
even with the time restraints. More...
Pancakes, Age of Empires , and crisis in
the courtroom
February 11, 2008
Where
did this week go? For not having a huge class load, this week
sure flew by. This week Campus Ministry hosted our annual
Mardi Gras celebration before Ash Wednesday, with pancake
races topping the event list at the celebration. Pancake races
are particularly fun because I get to make the obstacle course
every year. Since this would be the last time, I made the
course extremely difficult and the competition was exciting
this year with the winners losing their first race only to
come back to win it all. It is a blast to see your friends
try to complete an obstacle course while balancing a pancake
on a spatula. More...
Super Bowl and Super Snow
February 5, 2008
Wow what a great end to a great week with the
Giants winning the Super Bowl!!! I couldn't help but laugh as
Chase and Bopp kicked themselves for not placing any money on
the Giants. We kicked it off with fashion as we devoured homemade
cheese dip and good old American hotdogs, only to be topped
when the cheerleaders from across the hall came in late during
the fourth quarter with food from Friday's. You can always count
on Avila students to know where the fun is. I think I felt the
roof shake in Thompson Hall as everyone rejoiced that the cheating
Patriots had lost. More...
Geese, Gas, and
Gifts
January 28, 2008
I found
myself this week pondering what to do with all of my free
time. I quickly found myself occupied as I continued my practice
with my clay flowers. The best part of being here at Avila
is that the student body gets so close to each other, there
is always someone who can help you out in nearly any situation.
Since I am not a very creative minded individual, I headed
right to Bailey's room to get her artistic thoughts on the
color configuration for my flower. With February 14 right
around the corner, I will be honing my skills to the best
of my ability to create some awesome Valentine's Day gifts
for some of my most deserving lady friends. More...
Starting off my last semester
January 22, 2008
One
semester left, YEAH!!! With all my hard classes out of the
way I am able to relax and take easy classes as I coast my
way to graduation. With classes only on Tuesdays and Thursdays
this spring, I am left with loads of time to have plenty of
fun. I am definitely going to make up for lost fun in previous
semesters. Unfortunately with all this free time, I will probably
have to find a job, but in the mean time, I am all about having
some fun. More...
It's hard to
say goodbye
December 14, 2007
One of the hardest parts of the college experience
is learning to say goodbye to your best friends. I have made
some fantastic friends since coming to Avila , especially this
semester. With only four months away from graduation, time is
ticking away; and while graduating will be thrilling, I am going
to miss all the great memories I have made here. More...
Old Man Winter is back
December 4, 2007
When it decides to get cold here it doesn't joke
around!!! This week started off so nice and pretty, Bernadette,
Megan, and I went to the park to hang out since we all had some
free time on our hands. However by the week ends, it was terrible.
The wind has been blowing and taking bites out of everyone who
dares to walk outside. More...
BINGO, Mock Trial,
Fake Flowers, and Football
November 11, 2007
Wow, where did
this week go? From cooking out to playing bingo with the elderly,
I kept myself busy this week. Once a month, Campus Ministry
plays bingo with the retirement community down the street. I
have been going since my sophomore year and you would think
that I would be a pro. NOPE! More...
No soccer...what do I do with myself?
November 5, 2007
I miss soccer… no more practices,
no more coaches, and no more games; it is really sad. Because
I have more time in the afternoons, I have devoted more time
to Mock Trial and Campus Ministry. With Halloween on Wednesday,
Campus ministry put on trick-or-treat for canned goods. More...
Soccer, soccer,
soccer
October 22, 2007
In
the last two weeks we have had five soccer games. Wow, life
is hectic! While most of them didn't turn out the way I had
hoped, we were blessed in that no one else was injured as
it seems that injuries have plagued the men's team this year.
The bright side is that we did win our game against William
Woods University which has breathed some life back into the
team. With only two games left, we are looking to go out swinging.

Homecoming weekend
October
8, 2007
I
sure am glad this week is over! With two disappointing losses
on the soccer field, homecoming prep, and homework, I need
a break. Thank goodness we get a fall break this coming week.
We played Graceland
on Tuesday; they are ranked third in the nation and every
player comes from either South America or Europe . Needless
to say, we had our hands full. We played well against them;
it is just hard to match up to their level of skill when most
of them come to America only to play soccer and not much more.
Not only were they talented, but they were fast, which meant
that everyone had to man mark or else they would get a break
away. It's not much fun to run up and down the sideline following
a guy who isn't even touching the ball. More...
Homecoming Prep
October 1, 2007
With
homecoming next week, Campus ministry set to make their entry
into the Avila banner contest. With the winner receiving $125
towards their club, we got together all of the ladies with
creative talent to see what they could pull off. Spending
an entire afternoon planning the banner out, they finally
set to making it and the finished product looks great! Campus
Ministry is sure to win.
This
last week was hectic to say the least. The pre-law society,
of which I am the president, put on Constitution Day this
year, a day reserved for the celebration of the American constitution,
bringing in Colin Picker, Scholar and professor of law at
UMKC. It was really interesting to hear how our constitution
compared to those of France, Great Britain, and Germany. He
pointed out how different constitutions can actually provide
for the different power ratios between the different branches.

Back At School
September 17, 2007
Well... here I am.
It's my senior year and I am having a blast. My name is Joshua
and I am from Joplin, Missouri. I was born and raised in southwestern
Missouri and proud of it. Some people say that I come from a
large family, but with only eight kids in my family, we're still
three short of a soccer team. Soccer for my family is like breathing.
Everyone in my family plays the game...without it, we just wouldn't
be the same.More....
