Cookouts, Habitat for Humanity, and Field Day
  April 21, 2008

Where did this week go? A black hole must have opened up and devoured all my time because this last week was way to busy for my liking. At least I managed to get most of the work done that I needed in preparation for choosing a law school to attend this fall. So far Texas Tech is looking like the best choice as they have offered me a nice scholarship and in-state tuition. However, I won't know for sure until the beginning of May when my dad and I are going to start house shopping.

Actually this past week wasn't so bad especially with the cookout that campus ministry put on. With this being my fourth season as chef, I made sure everyone's burger was cooked just right. The only downside of making really good burgers is having to cook a lot of them since word gets around. This means a couple of hours standing in smoke, which is never fun. This year Turk joined Kyle and me and will continue my tradition once I graduate of serving the best burger on the Campus Ministry team. It is kind of sad that I have to hang up my flipper. At least there are two really good guys left to keep things smokin'.

Also Habitat for Humanity was a nice break. This year we had a record turnout. Usually we have about 5-7. This year we had 15!!! When I found out that 15 people wanted to go I figured most of them would come up with an excuse at the last minutes as to why they couldn't come. Not this year. We even had three more people want to go but 15 was our limit. With Bernadette leading the effort, this should grow even more next year which is really exciting since I can remember the first time we went and only three of us went.

Avila hosted its annual field day competition this week, with Campus Ministry being the defending champions. In previous years we usually only have enough people for one team, but this year has had enough for two teams which was exciting. However, what was not exciting is that they wouldn't stack the teams to ensure that we would win again, which we didn't. I totally dominated at the sack race and human wheelbarrow. I was up against our journal advisor, Sara, for the wheelbarrow and left her in the dust. She rocked in the hula hoop contest though, and her team, Admission Office, ended up winning.

Well time is coming to an end. Most of my classes are coming to a close and I am getting ready to go back home for the summer. Only a few more journals before graduation. So until next time…
