Wow,
what a year… I can't believe it's almost the end. And to think,
when I come back next year I'll be Bailey Pyle. (Yes, my name
is changing from Bailey Kyle to Bailey Pyle, please be nice).
This year has definitely had its ups and downs, but I feel
it was more heavily weighed with the ups.
Busy,
busy, busy. The worst part about this time of year is how
busy it keeps me. I've been trying to tie off loose ends,
finish projects, and I'm beginning to think about final exams.
If there is one thing I do not like about college, it's studying
for finals. However, I have some pretty awesome professors,
so that makes things a little better. For example, and one
reason why going to a small school is so fantastic, last semester
I had my Abnormal Psychology exam at 11:00 am... or so I thought.
I was on my way down to class to take my final around 10:50
when I ran into Alex, who was in Abnormal with me. She was
on her way to my room to get me because I was missing the
final. Apparently the final was actually 10:15, and Dr. Sirridge,
my professor had sent Alex up to get me so I could make sure
I took the final. I guess he said, “Bailey wouldn't miss something
like this, would you go check on her for me?” to Alex. I rushed
down there and took my final in plenty of time and finished
the class with an “A.” I was so thankful that Dr. Sirridge
knew me well enough to know I wouldn't skip out on a final.

Fun times all around
April 21, 2008
Hello
and welcome back. With projects and exams all week, this past
one was really busy. I had a project due Monday, an exam Tuesday,
and another project due Thursday (this project was a detailed
board game on the Baroque period in art history. Beyond exciting,
I know). Needless to say, I was pretty stressed. More...
Sadness and Cheer
April 14, 2008
What
a long week… I am very thankful it is over, but I disappointingly
believe that this week is not going to be much better as far
as being busy goes. Last begun with lots of work. Then on
Tuesday and Wednesday were tryouts for the high school where
I coach cheerleading. Beth and I spent an hour and a half
each of those days teaching the girls cheers, chants, and
a dance, which they performed for a panel of judges on Thursday
evening. This wouldn't have been so bad except for I was quite
literally going from one thing straight to the other on Tuesday
and Wednesday. I felt so overwhelmed, and now looking into
the future week, it doesn't seem to be looking any different.
Plus I have a lot of homework to get done this week and I
am not looking forward to that at all. Anyway, I digress…

Fun, fun, and more fun
April 7, 2008
Good
news… this week was really exciting. I worked a lot, but I
also participated in some fun Avila activities. This week
RHA (Resident Hall Association) had a Hall Appreciation Week.
There were all kinds of fun things like games, contests, questionnaires,
and prizes. One of the contests was as simple as filling out
a survey on dorm life and you were entered to win a gas card.
How easy is that? So I was very excited and tried to take
advantage of every winning opportunity possible. More...
Spring Break good times
March 24, 2008
Well
this past week was our spring break, and mine consisted mostly
of friends, family, and wedding planning. I was really bummed
out because we got out of classes Thursday, but I had to work
on Saturday, so I stuck around Kansas City for a few extra
days and tried to get some little things done. Finally, Saturday
night I left for home and got there late that night. More...
Wow! What a busy week! Time to rest now.
March 10, 2008
My
week was jam-packed! Between school, work, and cheer, the
past several days have been non-stop. My week started out
with work, homework, and meetings, and pretty much ended the
same way. The weekend, as usual is when things got really
exciting though.
First off,
I coach Notre Dame de Sion high school's cheerleaders, and
it just so happened that their basketball team made it to
state. So Friday morning I woke up at 5:00 a.m. to ride with
sixteen high school girls to Columbia for the Missouri state
basketball championships. It was a very long day, but the
team won, which put them in for the final state championship
game, and our girls looked very good. However, it was a long
trip back as well and I had to work that night. More...
Ludo, Frenchies, and nasty garlic bread
March 3, 2008
Hello
all! I hope your week went well because mine! There wasn't
really anything too out of the ordinary, but in general, it
was just a pretty good week. It started off with my first
day of work at Michael's, you know, the craft store? I need
a little extra cash for odds and ends, so I decided that I
should get another job that would be flexible, but still make
me a little extra money. I really like my new job actually,
the people are really nice, I work with two other girls from
Avila , and I get a discount at the store. This is great because
that means I can get some of my art supplies and wedding stuff
cheaper. Not to mention it is easy work and decent pay. The
only down side is that this will be my third job now; I coach
at Notre Dame de Sion high school, I have my work-study job
at the Ridgway front desk, and now I cashier at Michael's.
It's a pretty full schedule. More...
We are the champions!!
February 25, 2008
I'm
gonna start you out with some fantastic news… we officially
won the over-all HAAC Spirit banner! Not only does this mean
we get a big blue banner hanging up in the Mabee Field House,
but we also get big rings that say “Conference Champions”
on them. It's a pretty sweet deal, and I am REALLY excited.
It definitely made this past seven months well worth all the
hard
As
everyone knows, this past Thursday was the big “day ‘o love”
and pretty much everyone had plans. Well, except for me that
is. While everyone was spending time with their loved one
or hanging out with friends in defiance of Valentine's Day,
I was sitting in my dorm room watching a special on the History
channel about Al Capone and the Valentine's Day massacre.
What a romantic night, I know. My fiancé had to work
on Thursday night so my Valentine's Day celebration was delayed
until Sunday. He did surprise me with chocolates and balloons
on actual V-Day itself, so it was nice to get a little something.
The great thing is that he made up for it big time. More...
All work and no play...well, sorta
February 11, 2008
This
was a pretty uneventful week. So I will drone on and highlight
the most exciting aspects of the past seven days, most of
which are not really exhilarating at all but could be more
accurately described as monotonous.
This week
I returned to my work-study job at the Ridgway front desk.
Working at the front desk consists mostly of me getting the
mail for the Ridgway and Thompson dorms, answering any questions
that residents may have, and doing my homework. It's a pretty
posh job except for the fact that the front desk is always
unbelievably hot. It was so hot, I was running a fan when
it was 13 degrees outside. Besides the ridiculous heat, working
there gives me the chance to get some homework done and get
out of my room. Let's be honest, if I wasn't working at the
front desk, I would probably be taking a nap and I would never
get my homework done. More...
Super Bowl and Super Snow

Well, I am still trying to get into the swing
of school and homework, and so far, it's been difficult. There
seems to be a never ending array of homework in my life, despite
the fact that I am taking less hours this semester… oh well,
I just need to get back into “school mode.” More...
Nationals in
Florida
January 28, 2008
So
here I am diving head first into my Spring 2008 semester.
Let me begin the new semester by summing up the end of the
last one.
After finals
were over and my stress began to melt away, I drove home for
a relaxing Christmas break… all twelve days of it. Yes, only
twelve days back in Ozark, MO before I was headed back up
here for cheerleading practice. We practiced every day for
the rest of break to get prepared for our National competition
in Orlando, Florida on January 19th. More...
Stressful semester's
end
December 14, 2007
I
am SO glad this week is just about over. Filled with studying,
cheer, stress, finals, and a lot more stress, this is one
week I am not sad to see go by. Last week was stressful enough
to make me sick. Sunday morning I woke up feeling absolutely
horrible, no doubt results of lack of sleep and stress from
the week before. Although I have gotten over being sick, the
stress still lingers as I am waiting for this final day to
come to an end. More...
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Finals
are bearing down on top of me again this week, which means
more papers and projects, which explains this 3:00 a.m. journal
entry. Will it ever end? I definitely welcomed this weekend
with open arms and lots of sleep. More...
Avila in the
fall

Tobasco on Halloween
November
5, 2007
This was a pretty exciting week for
me. Wednesday night, as everyone knows was Halloween, and although
I did not go out and do anything crazy, I did have fun here
in the dorms. We had practice that night so we started our Halloween
festivities a little late. After we got back from practice Whitney,
Raphael, and I carved pumpkins and handed out candy to trick-or-treaters
in the dorms. More..
Tilt, tuck, tighten
and a couple of cats...
October 29, 2007
This week began with a relatively relaxing Monday
and a steady stream of hectic busyness throughout the rest of
the week. One fun and exciting new thing was my roommate, Amanda,
purchased this work out video called Hip Hop Abs, and Monday
after practice we walked in on Amanda and Courtney dancing it
up like crazy ab-crunching machines. Naturally, Whitney and
I joined in, but only after I snapped a few pictures of Courtney
and Amanda getting very intense with the “tilt, tuck, tighten”
slogan the video constantly used. To our absolute luck, Sean,
one of the football players walked into our room just as we
were getting our crunch on and laughed at us for about thirty
minutes. More...
Fall Break is over...back to reality
October 22, 2007
What
a busy last two weeks… Fall Break, games, coaching, and fundraisers
have predominately ruled my life and I have a lot to talk
about.
To start
out, we did not have a blog last week because we were on Fall
Break. Like most students on Avila's campus, I welcomed the
break with open arms. Tuesday was our last day of classes
so after practice early Wednesday morning, I headed straight
for home. I hadn't been home for over a month, so seeing my
family, kitty cats, and sleeping in my bed was an amazing
feeling. During the week I mostly took care of wedding things
such as going dress shopping and calling reception sites.
The good news is that I'm pretty sure I have found “the dress.”
I was so excited! Besides wedding stuff, I hung out with my
mom, fiancé, and friends, enjoying drives and late
nights of talking and playing games. More...
Homecoming weekend
October 7, 2007
This
weekend was jam-packed with fun and exciting events! My week
started off once again with a very late night as I described
to you in the last journal entry. However, after Sunday night,
my week was relatively stress-free and pretty darn relaxing
(a rarity). I really didn't have much homework at all during
the week, and I used most of my spare time doing some planning
for my wedding. Like I said, the week was rather stagnate
with me pretty much just lazing about (every college student's
dream), but the weekend is when the fun really began. More...
Homework and cheer...it's my life!
October 1, 2007
Actually, this week was really kinda stressful.
I had two exams and two papers due. With each exam (they were
on different days) I stayed up until 3 a.m. studying, but at
least it was not an all-nighter. I have pulled a couple of those
in my day and they are not exactly what I would call the ideal
way to have fun. Tonight I am up late once again, writing this
for all you wonderful people at 2:54 in the morning. (Oh the
things I do for you). I am the last roommate up, but at one
point we were all studying together, we discovered that homework
is a wonderful way to bond. A couple of the football players
came down to “study” as well, but it really just ended up with
them eating our food and then laying on our couch. More...
Take the good
with the bad...
September 24, 2007
Hello again! This will be your first glimpse into
what my life is like here on the Avila University campus on
a day-to-day basis.
So this was a week of mixed emotions. Some very exciting things
happened, and some not-so-pleasing things happen. I'll start
you off with the not so great, that way I can build up to the
good. My week started out with a very red, very blood-shot eye,
so I went to see the best woman on campus when you're sick:
Nurse Carol. This woman could possibly be a saint. She told
me that it definitely was not pink eye, and she gave me some
eye drops. Well, by the time Thursday came around my eye was
even worse. It was so bad that people were staring at me as
I walked to my classes. More...
It's me, Bailey!!!
September 18, 2007
Hey everyone! Welcome to my Student Journal! My
name is Bailey and I am from a small town in Missouri called
Ozark. If you've never heard of it, it's right between Branson
and Springfield. If you still have no clue, it's where Lambert's
Cafe is located. You know...the place with the throwed rolls?
Most people know my town because of that restaurant. My town
is small enough that my fiancé used to share his snack
with me in kindergarten. (Ah, how cute!). Although I was born
in southeast Missouri, I have lived in Ozark most of my life...well,
until college of course. More...
