Test-Optional Admission

Applicants are considered for undergraduate admission based on either of the following two pathways:

1) Test-Optional Admission – With Avila’s test-optional admission process, applicants that hold a 2.75 or higher high school cumulative GPA may be admitted to Avila without submitting an ACT or SAT score.

  • Provisional Test-Option Admission – 2.5 – 2.74 cumulative GPA admitted with a required 3 credit hour “Strategies for Success” course.

2) Standard Admission – see details below

High school grade point averages of 2.5 or above (4.0 scale)

ACT score of 20 or above or SAT score of 1020 (CRW+ Math) or above – Avila’s ACT college code 2278 or SAT college code 6109

For successful admission to the university, Avila strongly recommends that high school applicants complete 16 units of college preparatory coursework

First-year applicants are encouraged to submit their application for admission soon after completing their junior year of high school. The following checklist of materials must be submitted to Avila Admission before the student’s application can be evaluated:

Submit your ACT or SAT Scores (If you take the ACT or SAT, your scores won’t hurt you, but they WILL save you from taking a placement test)

First-year applicants may apply after six full semesters of high school or secondary school work. Final transcripts indicating high school graduation need to be submitted to Avila Admission before first-year classes start.

GED Applicants who have not completed high school may be considered for admission on the basis of the GED test scores. Students must submit official GED scores. For Missouri residents, the Department of Education and Secondary Schools maintains the official scores from the GED. You may contact them to request an official transcript of your GED.

At Avila, our actions back our words and beliefs in:

The worth, dignity and potential of each human being

Two students enjoying the free burgers at a campus carnival

Inspired by our founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, our campus fosters a community of inclusion, understanding, and peace. Avila’s Buchanan Initiative for Peace and Nonviolence is a shining example of how we as a campus put these values into action. Our Thornhill Gallery hosts artists, activists, and humanitarian organizations seeking to promote understanding and collaboration. With our newly-opened Avila community food pantry and Eagles Aware sexual harassment program, are creating a safe environment that will allow you to concentrate on what matters most: your education. You’re welcome here.

Excellence in teaching and learning

Avila’s class sizes might be small, but the knowledge you’ll receive from our highly accomplished faculty won’t be. Our professors pair academic expertise – 70 percent have their Ph.D., or the highest degree in their field of study — with real-world, practical experience to give you a well-rounded set of skills sought out by employers. And with our Center for Student Excellence, Learning Commons, and other resources, you’ll have the assistance you need on campus to solve any challenge in or out of the classroom.

Excellence and Avila: a tradition for over 100 years.

Access: Avila University

College within reach.

Planning for college causes most students and families confusion (and concern) over what your education is really going to cost. Published tuition prices, minus scholarships, plus housing… and don’t forget about books and fees! And what if you want to study abroad? How about research opportunities and internships?

We get it and are fully committed to making college accessible and college costs simple.

100% of Avila students receive scholarships. Upfront, your academic or athletic achievements qualify you for between $21,000 – $24,000 in scholarships. On top of that, you can gain performance, engagement, and access grants to lower your tuition costs.

On-time graduation and student debt. Graduating on time, without the expense of added semesters, is the most important thing any student can do to lower their college debt. If you do your part at Avila, we’ll do ours to ensure your on-time graduation.

Securing valuable experiences outside of the classroom. Avila offers guaranteed research or internship experience opportunities for every student in every major.
