Now’s the Time to Get a Round “Tuit”
Last week I spoke of entering midterms, tests, and papers with a sense of your own possibilities; to be people of hope while recognizing and accepting that there is always so much more we woulda, coulda, or shoulda done to be perfectly prepared. I said then, and still believe now, we are all better when we see the possibilities and build on our strengths.
Focusing on the positive and seeing our possibilities creates a healthy mindset, but doesn't necessarily result in putting pen to paper, or cracking open a textbook. Sometimes we simply need to seize the initiative, stop wishing, and start acting. Now that our students are back from fall break, the next few weeks are a great time to make things happen.
Mark Twain said, "The secret to getting ahead is getting started," but often, it's tough getting started. We may find ourselves looking for a little push, a little extra motivation that will enable us to get around to whatever it is we need to get around to.
Maybe I can help. This morning, I put in an order for the very thing that you need to get on track – wooden nickels called "round tuits." On one side of the coin is the Avila logo, and on the other side it simply says "TUIT," serving as a reminder that it's time to get around to it. So when you know you need to focus more on accounting, but find it hard to get around to it, I've got you covered. When you know you should be working out a bit harder, but can't seem to do it, I've got you covered as well. And, when you are certain that it is the perfect time to polish that medical school application, but you can't seem to get off the dime, well you know I'm there for you as well.
Any day now, my Avila round tuits will arrive and I'll be ready to share them with anyone who asks. Having one in your pocket may be just the edge you need to be as productive as you've always wanted to be. A little nudge may be all that you need to take off on your road to success. Sometimes a silly little gimmick can help us confront the silly little things we let stand in the way of our own progress. |
