  Avila University to Host Woman on Wheels

Avila University will host Katie Banister on Nov. 1, 2007 for two presentations on disability awareness. Katie Banister is an author, activist and co-founder of Access-4-All, Inc., an organization that provides education and empowers others through motivational speaking and disability education.

Katie will share her journey as a quadriplegic and the unique challenges that she must face.  Katie suffered a spinal cord injury in 1990 at the age of 25, and returned to independent living in 1992.  Since then she has authored two books, Aunt Katie’s Visit and The Personal Care Attendant Guide. 

The November 1 presentations include:

Personal Perspective from a Woman on Wheels – 10:00 a.m., Whitfield Center, Avila University.  Open to the public.

Caregiving – Cultivating Healthy Relationships – 1:00 p.m., Whitfield Center, Avila University.  Open to the public.

This program is an interdisciplinary event sponsored by the School of Behavioral & Social Sciences, School of Nursing, School of Science and Health, Group Activities Program (GAP), and Disability Services.
