Goppert Theatre at Avila University announces the 2007-2008 season. The Avila University Theatre program has offered pre-professional degree programs in theatre for 34 years. Students experience a wide variety of disciplines and work with professional artists from Kansas City, and nationally, to develop their craft. This season offers the same high quality entertainment through thought provoking theatre. The shows are:
Black Comedy by Peter Shaffer
Oct. 4, 5, 6 at 8 p.m. & Oct. 7 at 2 p.m.
One blown fuse can cause a lot of mayhem in this hilarious comedy by acclaimed playwright Peter Shaffer. On the “night-of-his-life,” the main character, Brindsley, experiences Murphy’s Law thanks to faulty electricity, leaving the audience in darkness.
The Grapes of Wrath by Frank Galati, based on the book by John Steinbeck
Nov. 15, 16, 17 at 8 p.m. & Nov. 18 at 2 p.m.
This play is a powerful and affecting stage version of one of the most revered masterpieces in all of American literature. The story is a look at the harsh reality of the great depression and the truth that cannot be forgotten.
Marisol by Jose Rivera
Feb. 28, 29 & Mar. 1 at 8 p.m. & Mar. 2 at 2 p.m.
Everywoman Marisol Perez takes the audience through an apocalyptic journey that pins the destiny of our planet on the outcome of revolution on renewal.
Kiss Me Kate: The Broadway Musical
Music & Lyrics by Cole Porter Book by Bella & Sam Spewack
Apr. 24, 25, 26 at 8 p.m. & April 27 at 2 p.m.
It’s opening night of the musical version of Taming Of the Shrew and a play-within-a-play unfolds as the divorce drama of the two main characters unfolds on what is coincidentally the one-year anniversary of their split.
