April 20, 2007

Kansas City, Mo.- On Apr. 20, 2007, the Missouri Association for Colleges of Teacher Education (MACTE) honored sixty-seven outstanding beginning teachers as part of the spring conference held in Jefferson City. Each college or university from Missouri that prepares teachers identified two candidates who completed the college’s education program and who have experienced success in the first or second year of their careers.

Christopher Eager and Abbie Maring, who completed their teacher preparation at Avila University, were two of the outstanding beginning teachers honored at this event. Christopher Eager teaches seventh grade social studies at Pioneer Ridge Middle School in Independence. Abbie Maring teaches first grade at Richardson Elementary in the Lee’s Summit School District. They each received a memento for this great honor and congratulations from Mr. Peter Herschend, president of the Missouri State Board of Education.

Avila University is a private, co-educational, values-based liberal arts institution founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet and is located at 119th and Wornall Rd in southwest suburban Kansas City, Mo.
