Two Avila University football players recently were honored as 2013 Daktronics-NAIA Football Scholar-Athletes. A total of 259 football student-athletes across the country were honored.
Chance Alberswerth, a graduate student and linebacker for the Eagles from Higginsville, MO, and Matt St. John, a fifth-year senior and offensive lineman from Excelsior Springs, MO, received the honor by maintaining at least a grade-point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and achieving at least a junior academic status.
For the second straight year, Cumberland (Tenn.) led all institutions with 16 individuals on the list.
