Secondary Education
At Avila, a student can prepare to become a teacher in grades 9-12 in many different subjects. Avila's secondary education program is designed to provide depth in the content area as well as skills in effective teaching. Avila’s teacher preparation is highly regarded by area principals and superintendents. Avila students get jobs.
Secondary Education Majors
Avila offers two majors which prepare students to become high school teachers.
Business Education
This major combines the content courses in business required by the state of Missouri with education courses designed to prepare teachers to create exciting, active lessons. This is a four year program with many clinical opportunities culminating in student teaching in business. The requirements are listed below:

K-12 teacher certification is available in the following areas:
- Art
- Unified Music - Vocal/Choral
The student seeking teaching credentials for Art or Vocal Music also would major in the content area and minor in Secondary Education. However, the certification is for grades K-12. Two student teaching opportunities, one at the elementary level and one at the secondary level, prepare the teacher for all employment possibilities.
