Avila Advantage Business
The candidate for the Bachelor of Arts degree in
Business Administration offered through the
Avila Advantage program must complete all the
University
general
degree
requirements.
Computer competency will be demonstrated by
successful completion of BU/CS 110.
Outcomes for Avila Advantage-Business
Graduates for the Bachelor of Arts degree in
Business Administration will be able to:
1. Develop policies, procedures and practices
that discourage unnecessary employment
related litigation (BU305, BU325, BU323,
BU346, BU321).
2. Understand the various aspects of consumer
and industrial (optional) buying behaviors and
the challenges of marketing in a consumer-ori-
ented society (BU312, BU310, BU499C).
3. Analyze investment objectives, including the
various risks, costs, types and characteristics of
funds available in the marketplace (BU331,
BU330, AC201, AC202, EC202, BU499C).
4. Understand how individual, group and organi-
zational processes and structure influence
behavior in organizations (BU321, BU323,
BU325, BU499C).
5. Demonstrate an understanding of the history,
laws, and labor-management relations prac-
tices necessary to perform successfully in a
management position (BU321, BU325,
BU323, BU499C).
6. Analyze cases depicting personnel issues, prior-
itize problems by severity and urgency, discrim-
inate between relevant and non-relevant infor-
mation, and formulate realistic solutions to
issues and problems (BU321, BU499C).
7. Examine their own values and belief systems
in order to improve their managerial and
interpersonal skills (BU323, BU499C,
BU321, BU322C, PL255C).
Assessment
The outcomes for the Business Administration
degree in the Avila Advantage program are
assessed through three measures. They are the
Educational Testing Services Higher Education
Assessment Major Field Test in Business, written
portfolio, and an oral presentation of the portfolio
in the capstone course (BU 499). The portfolio
reflects assignments completed throughout the
program from a minimum of four different cours-
es completed at Avila.
Admission to the Major
The 51-credit hour major is open only to students
who meet the requirements for admission to the
Avila Advantage Program, an adult degree pro-
gram for students who are at least 23 years of age
or have had a minimum of 3 years of work experi-
ence. Students may also elect to take an additional
12 credit hours in Business courses, especially rec-
ommended for students considering an MBA.
Degree Requirements
1) Students must achieve a minimum grade of
C in all courses required for the major. A
course may be repeated once to improve the
grade earned.
2) Nine credit hours of correspondence credits
from accredited, degree-granting institution
will be accepted toward a degree.
