AVILA UNIVERSITY 28 Student Development Activities Organizations Getting involved in organizations and activities is an important part of the total university edu- cational experience. As a participant, you develop such skills as interpersonal communication, organization, budgeting, time management, delegation, motivation and the art of compromise. Avila University has over 30 student organizations which provide leadership and involve- ment opportunities for all students. Listed below you will find a brief mission statement of these student organizations. If you would like further information about any of the groups list- ed, please complete a “Student Organization Interest” form, available from the Student Life Office in Marian Center. 1.     AVILA AMBASSADORS - Promotes Avila University and its values as official repre- sentatives of the Admissions Office. Ambassadors provide tours to prospective students and participate in special University events. For more information, call (816) 501-2400. 2. AVILA  ART  THERAPY  ORGANIZATION  -   Promotes  and  strengthens  the  Art Therapy program at Avila University and provides support and social opportunities for art and therapy students. 3.     AVILA CONCEPT, DESIGN AND PRODUCTION (ACDP) - Serves as the corporate communication and media production facility for Avila University. Provides public rela- tions, advertising and media services for events. 4. AVILA EDUCATION ASSOCIATION (AEA) - Provides opportunities for profession- al growth, professional networking, community service and social networking to teach- ers and pre-service teachers at Avila University. 5. AVILA MOCK TRIAL - Promotes critical thinking, cooperative problem-solving, pub- lic speaking and mutual trust between team members while affording students that oppor- tunity to actively participate and engage in trial activity and litigation. 6. AVILA PARALEGAL ASSOCIATION - Promotes networking between Avila parale- gal students and the legal community and provides professional and ethical development through education. 7.     AVILA SINGERS - Avila University Choir group. 8. AVILA  STUDENT  NURSES  ORGANIZATION  (ASNO)  -  Contributes  to  nursing education in order to provide the highest quality health care. Provides programs repre- sentative of fundamental and current professional interest and concerns. 9. AVILA UNIVERSITY  COLLEGE  DEMOCRATS  -  Advocate  for  candidates  and issues that enhance the Democratic Party.  Promote civic engagement through bipartisan, co-sponsored activities on campus and in the greater Kansas City area. 10.  AVILA UNIVERSITY COLLEGE REPUBLICANS - Serve as the center of conser- vative politics on campus by working to promote republican candidates for local, state and national office. Encourage bipartisan efforts to increase civic engagement. 11.   AVILA UNIVERSITY THEATRE COMPANY -An organization that exists to encour- age and develop interest in the theatre arts by promoting ensemble—participating in and learning about the craft. 12.   BETA BETA BETA HONOR SOCIETY - Honor society for the biological sciences, affiliated with Bio/Med Club. 13.  BIO/MED CLUB - Members can meet with other students in majors within the natural sciences. 14.  BLACK STUDENT UNION (BSU) - Provides Avila University with programming that promotes cultural diversity to “Build Stronger Unity.”
