College Skills To ensure student success, Avila encourages students to meet with a member of the College Skills staff for support and advice. Together they explore such areas as writing, time manage- ment, note and test taking, study strategies and other academic skills. Peer and Professional Tutors are available to work with students on writing skills and a vari- ety of content areas and to prepare for standardized exams such as C-BASE.  Tutoring sessions are available in a variety of formats including individual tutoring, study group sessions for test preparation and review. Tutoring  is  offered  during  regular  office  hours,  and  is  also  available  several  evenings  each week during the fall and spring semesters in the Ridgway Hall Outreach Center across from room 507. Ridgway tutoring is open to all Avila students. Counseling A counselor is available at Avila thirty hours per week. This licensed  professional is available to provide: •  Assessments •  Personal counseling dealing with a wide range of issues •  Support for those struggling with a personal crisis •  Referrals to outside agencies as appropriate •  Workshops, information sessions and opportunities to share experiences and learn in a small group setting.
