Students have the right to “opt out” of providing directory information. Requests to limit the release of directory information must be provided in writing to the Registration and Student Records Office by the end of the second week of each semester. Institutions may disclose non-directory information without violating FERPA under the follow- ing conditions: a. with the student’s written request; b.to school officials with “legitimate educational interests;” c. to parents of dependent students; d.to a person in response to a lawfully issued subpoena or court order.
