Kansas City ,
MO — It may be cold outside, but the Avila
University Women's basketball team is hot. Currently on a four game
win streak, more good happenings occurred for the Eagles on Monday,
February 18, in a non-conference game against Stephen's College
as two players surpassed a career milestone. Juniors Sarah Parker
and Ashley Townsend both scored their 1,000th points in a victorious
evening.
Entering Monday night's contest,
Parker needed ten points to join the 1000 point club. As a shooting-guard,
Parker fittingly passed her mark by knocking down a three-point
bucket in the second half. Townsend, who entered the game needing
eighteen points, powered-up inside to solidify her slot in the record
books.
Parker, who led last year's
team in scoring, poured in 17 for the evening and also managed a
season-high nine steals. Townsend, who leads the Eagles in points
(19.39) as well as rebounds (8.39), ended with 20 and 10 respectively.
With two regular season conference
games left to play this season, and another year ahead, watch for
these Eagles to continue to soar to record heights.
Avila University is a private, co-educational, values-based liberal
