Three Field Goals by Avila University's Andrew Korth leads the Eagles to a 9-6 Victory over Doane College in the College Fanz First Down Classic Saturday, August 29, 2009 -- Platte City , Missouri - Avila University junior Andrew Korth kicked three field goals to lead the Eagles to a 9-6 victory over Doane College in the football season opener for the two National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics teams. Korth connected on distances of 41, 45 and 33 yards and provided all the offensive highlights for Avila (1-0). His counterpart, Doane sophomore Andrew Nielsen, kept pace with field goals of 36 yards and 39 yards, but the Tigers (0-1) were held to only 201 yards total offense by a stingy Avila defense led by senior strong safety Bryan Bosley, who had eight unassisted tackles and a 34-yard interception return. Korth was named the offensive player of the game, while Doane's Dalton Ryba was selected the defensive player of the game. The sophomore linebacker had 10 solo tackles, three assisted tackles, and one sack for the Tigers. The game was the first of a NAIA doubleheader in the season-opening College Fanz First Down Classic, at Platte County High School 's Pirate Stadium in suburban Kansas City , Missouri . College Fanz Sports Network founder and CEO Bill Rasmussen (the man who founded ESPN 30 years ago) presented the First Down Classic trophy to Avila head coach Bruce Young. Over 1,500 fans were in attendance in the for the third annual gridiron contest, which was also the season premiere for the College Fanz NAIA Football Game of the Week.
