Avila University adds athletic teams

for upcoming season

Athletic department welcomes the addition of men's golf, cross-country teams

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Athletic Department at Avila University recently announced it is expanding itsathletic program by adding a men's golf team and cross country teams for both men and women, starting in the fall of 2010.

"By increasing the number of teams in our intercollegiate program to include men's and women's cross country as well as men's golf, Avila's presence in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) will increase significantly,” said Anthony Hall, Jr., director of athletics and recreation. “Ultimately, growing our athletics program means more opportunities for student athletes to compete in the Heart of America Conference.”

Recruiting for the men's golf team, as well as the cross-country team, is currently underway. Avila also has begun the process of filling the part-time head coaching position for the cross-country team.

Lisa Holton, current head coach for the Avila women's golf team, has assumed head coaching duties for both the men'sand women's golf teams going forward.

"The Avila women's golf team is excited to be joined by the men in the upcoming year," said Holton. "We anticipate that our Eagles will soar in next season's competition."
