AU's Krista Nelson Headed to Women's Golf National Championship

Eagles Finish 2nd and Take Home 2 HAAC All-Conference Awards

Coach Krause Earns Coach of the Year Honor

 

The Avila University Eagles Women's Golf team finished the regular season in second place in the rain shortened 2009 Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) Championship with a team score of 335, only 6 strokes behind Lindenwood University who won their 10th straight conference title.

Avila Senior Krista Nelson (Overland Park, KS) tied for first place with Marcella Ax (Lindenwood University) with a 76, there was only three golfers to break 80 on the day. Krista was awarded with the Low Medalist Award, All HAAC Award, and Player of the Year award. Krista will now head to the 15th Annual Women's Golf national Championships in Rapid City, SD. The championship will be held on Meadowbrook Municipal Golf Course on May 12-15 th .

Also earning All HAAC Conference Team honors was Ashley Raliff (JR, Leawood, Kansas) with a one day total 81, finishing 4 th overall. Coach Jerry Krause, completing his 6 th season as the Eagles' Coach, earned HAAC Coach of the Year honor.

Other Eagle golfer scores were Emily Ryan (FR, Kansas City, MO) 88, Anna Frazier (JR, Leawood, Kansas) 90, and Kelsey Frerking (JR, Overland Park, KS) 107.

Avila University is a private, co-educational, values-based liberal arts institution founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet and is located at 119th and Wornall Rd in southwest suburban Kansas City, MO.
