Avila University Football Earn Two
Player
of the Week Awards
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Avila
University's football team beat Culver-Stockton 28-21 this past
Saturday in Canton, Missouri, and on Monday two players were named
Conference Players of the Week. Tyler Cardwell, sophomore defensive
back from Blue Springs, Missouri, won Defensive Player of the week,
and Austin Cole, junior quarterback from Grass Lake, Michigan, won
Offensive Player of the Week for the Heart of America Conference.
Cardwell led the Eagle defense
with 11 unassisted tackles, 2 tackles for loss, and 3 pass break-ups
against Culver-Stockton. This is the second week in a row he has
led the defense in tackles, totaling 20 the past 2 games, all while
having to wear a cast on his broken hand from earlier in the season.
Cole completed 28 of 42 passes
for 363 yards with 4 touchdown passes for the Eagles. Austin is
the first offensive player to win this award since Billy Firn did
it in 2007.
The Eagles are 2-2 (1-2 HAAC)
on the year and will host Lindenwood University, ranked 3 rd in
the country, Saturday at 1 PM at Dasta Stadium.
Avila University
