Avila University Football Earn Two
Player of the Week Awards

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Avila University's football team beat Culver-Stockton 28-21 this past Saturday in Canton, Missouri, and on Monday two players were named Conference Players of the Week. Tyler Cardwell, sophomore defensive back from Blue Springs, Missouri, won Defensive Player of the week, and Austin Cole, junior quarterback from Grass Lake, Michigan, won Offensive Player of the Week for the Heart of America Conference.

Cardwell led the Eagle defense with 11 unassisted tackles, 2 tackles for loss, and 3 pass break-ups against Culver-Stockton. This is the second week in a row he has led the defense in tackles, totaling 20 the past 2 games, all while having to wear a cast on his broken hand from earlier in the season.

Cole completed 28 of 42 passes for 363 yards with 4 touchdown passes for the Eagles. Austin is the first offensive player to win this award since Billy Firn did it in 2007.

The Eagles are 2-2 (1-2 HAAC) on the year and will host Lindenwood University, ranked 3 rd in the country, Saturday at 1 PM at Dasta Stadium.

Avila University is a private, co-educational, values-based liberal arts institution founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet and is located at 119th and Wornall Rd in southwest suburban Kansas City, MO.
