Former St. Pius X athlete transfers to Avila Jolynne Brancato, a sophomore at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas has signed a national letter of intent to transfer to Avila University and resume her basketball career.

While at Benedictine, she was a member of both the soccer team and cheerleading squad. Prior to her initial college experience, she was a key member of several outstanding basketball teams at St. Pius X – including a trip to the District finals to top off the 2005- 2006 season. A well-rounded athlete, she also played soccer, ran track, and was an All- District softball player for the Warriors.

“Jolynne is an unexpected pleasant addition to our 2008 recruiting class. She has been
away from the game, but has maintained her competitive edge and we look forward to
seeing her get better each and every day. She is a fine athlete and certainly hasn’t lost even a step in her time way, so as the rust comes off her basketball skills, she certainly has the opportunity to open a lot of eyes. With the up-tempo, pressuring style we want to play, having her in the backcourt rotation will be a big benefit for the program. Not only will she add to our backcourt depth, but Jolynne’s experience of having already been in college for 2 years will put her in a position to lead and mentor the younger girls in this class.

While we are looking to see what she will develop on the floor, we already know that she is a tremendous young lady, one we are very proud to call a member of the Avila Women’s Basketball family.”

Jolynne is the daughter of Rozann and Joe Brancato of Kansas City, Missouri. She has
been nominated for inclusion in both Who’s Who and People to People. Very involved in her community, she has been a volunteer for Special Olympics, youth basketball camps, and in the Cardiology Department at North Kansas City Hospital. Jolynne will be majoring in Radiology at Avila.

Avila University competes on the NAIA, Division II level within the prestigious Heart of
America Athletic Conference. Avila is a private, co-educational, values-based liberal arts institution founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1917 and is located at 119th and Wornall Road in southwest suburban Kansas City, Missouri.
