  Avila Athletics History - 1980's    
         
         
  1989

Women's softball and men's baseball are added to the athletic programs.  Joan Ice (softball) and Dave Klein (baseball) are hired as the first coaches of their respective programs.

 
       
  1986 The evalution team for the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools extends Avila's accreditation amid glowing remarks about the college's "hard working faculty...effective presidential leadership...faculty committed to give extensively of their time and energy."  
       
  1985 The college begins an eight-month presidential searh when Sister Olive Louise Dallavis leaves the presidency to work in the Advancement Office as President Emerita.  Dr. Larry Krames takes the post on November 1, becoming the college's first lay president.  Scott Royal-ferris is named Athletic Director and Head Men's Soccer Coach.  
       
  1984 The Avila Association sponsors the first Avila College Golf Classic.  
       
  1982 Avila's soccer team advances to the NAIA Area IV champinship and finishes fourth in the country.  Bill Waris, Jackson County executive and former men's basketball coach, is the first person to be inducted into the Avila Athletic Hall of Fame.  
       
  1980

The Mabee Fieldhouse construction completed. The very first athletic support group was organized and headed by Attorney Thomas F. Gordon.
